Getting involved in Undergraduate Research
There are many ways to become involved in undergraduate research at UTEP. These include:
- Volunteering in a lab. Ask EEB faculty members if they are accepting volunteers.
- Volunteering in the biodiversity collections: email Dr. Vicky Zhuang (mzhuang@utep.edu)
- NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates in Chihuahuan Desert Biodiversity (CDB-REU)
- Independent study with one of our faculty members. Ask them about BIOL 4198, 4298, 4398.
- Employment as an undergraduate research assistant - watch for flyers or announcements from EEB laboratories that may be hiring to perform grant-sponsored work
Most of these opportunities involve developing a connection with one of our EEB faculty members. If there is a class or EEB professor you particularly liked, you are encouraged to approach them after class, in office hours, or by email about research opportunities. There are also opportunities for research outside of UTEP including internships and summer across the country.
