Summer Financial Aid
Students who enroll in summer courses may be eligible to receive certain types of financial aid:
- Undergraduate students may be eligible for a Pell Grant, based on the number of credits they enroll in.
- Undergraduate and graduate students who are eligible for federal student loans but did not borrow their entire eligibility during the fall and spring, may be able to borrow the leftover amount in the summer, as long as they enroll at least half-time.
- Students may also decide to borrow a PLUS or Graduate PLUS loan. These loans require a credit check.
- Depending on their program and college, students may be able to receive a departmental award.
For Texas Resident Undergraduate Students
In addition to federal and state grants and student loans, UTEP offers additional grants to Texas resident undergraduate students who register for summer courses. If you submitted the FAFSA or TASFA and have completed all pending requirements, you will automatically be considered for summer grants once you register for classes.
The current grant amounts provided, including the total of all federal, state, and institutional grants, are below. Students without enough financial need may not be eligible for grants or may receive a smaller amount.
- $4,000 for full-time enrollment (12 or more credits)
- $3,000 for ¾ enrollment (9-11 credits)
- $2,000 for half-time enrollment (6-8 credits)
- $1,000 for enrollment in 3-5 credits
