According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), F-1 students are eligible to participate in an internship with a designated international organization if the internship is:
International Organization work authorization is recommended by OIP and approved by USCIS. USCIS requires a filing fee to process the application. Because government approval is required, processing can take several months and students may not begin working before approval.

Severe Economic Hardship authorization is recommended by OIP and approved by USCIS. USCIS requires a filing fee and government processing, which can take several months. Students may not begin working before approval. Therefore, this is not a good option for students who need immediate relief.
Even if a student appears to meet all conditions, USCIS may still deny the request, and the filing fee is nonrefundable.
